Ndorwa West Constituency is gearing up for a heated battle in the 2026 general elections, with seasoned politician David Bahati, the State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, entering the race as an independent candidate.
Bahati, who has represented the constituency since 2006, faced a surprising defeat in the NRM primaries, losing to first-time parliamentary contender Eliab Naturinda Mporera.
Mporera, a Kampala-based lawyer, has been making waves in the region with his fresh perspective and promise of new leadership.
His campaign has resonated particularly with young voters eager for change and accountability.
“We're tired of the same old politics that keeps on pledging but delivering nothing. Eliab brings a new energy and vision for our constituency,” said some constituents.
Bahati, however, remains a formidable contender, boasting over 20 years of experience under the NRM party and a strong grassroots network.
His decision to run as an independent candidate has stirred tensions within the party, with some leaders accusing him of betrayal.
